about
This original song was a request from my Dad to write a song about his Grandma (my Great Grandma.)
My Dad said that when he was driving around in West Virginia with his Grandma and she was having a "senior moment" she'd always say, "Oh me oh my, oh my oh me, my mind's way down on Leading Creek." Leading Creek runs near Elkins, West Virginia.
My Dad asked that I use that as a lyric in a song and so I did. I figure if I ever start going senile I'd much rather picture that process as being down on some pleasant creek somewhere rather than the alternatives it could represent. This song is about life, getting older, and losing your mind.
lyrics
Where have I gone?
How have I lived?
What have I done?
Whom have I loved?
Oh me oh my.
Did I leave them?
Did they leave me?
Did I wait long beneath that willow tree?
CHORUS:
Oh me oh my
oh my oh me,
my mind's way down on Leading Creek.
Oh me oh my.
Oh me oh my
oh my oh me,
my mind's way down on Leading Creek.
For pity's sake,
what have I gained?
For pity's sake,
what have I lost?
Oh me oh my.
When I pass through
what shall I do
when I awake
to find my love is gone?
CHORUS
Here's something borrowed,
something new,
something shiny,
but I feel blue.
Oh me oh my.
This creek will wind.
These hands will shake.
All thoughts erode.
These banks, well they break.
CHORUS
